Summary
The Process Engineer will provide engineering expertise to develop and implement process concepts and designs on technically complex projects. The process engineer is responsible for coordinating with other disciplines including software engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical designers, and client personnel to ensure the project design requirements are met. Project sizes will vary and will consist primarily of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and industrial process systems.
In addition to the basic qualifications listed below, the successful candidate shall possess the skills required to successfully develop and execute project tasks and deliverables, be a collaborative team player, and have a strong drive to deliver solutions to customers.
Responsibilities
- Working directly with clients to develop filtration and separation process scale-up equipment solutions (e.g., chromatography, TFF, & buffer preparation systems).
- Reviewing customer-submitted URSs for proposal development and project execution.
- Collecting and analyzing pilot-trial process data from clients.
- Generating process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and functional specifications.
- Participating in mechanical system design (3D model) reviews to ensure process system functionality.
- Working with project managers and other disciplines to ensure process deliverables and all the necessary details are delivered on time, fully coordinated, and within the project budget.
- Researching process equipment and instrumentation providers and making recommendations and selections based on client and project requirements.
- Writing process equipment and system component specifications for complex systems.
- Designing testing methods, writing testing documents, and participating in factory acceptance tests (FATs) for systems and equipment.
- Staying abreast of the latest technologies used in our industry and being aware of the approximate costs of the various technologies that could be used to solve our clients’ design challenges.
Required Experience and Knowledge
- BS Degree, preferably in Chemical or Bio Engineering. MS Degree preferred.
- 3-5+ years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting or in pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing.
- Experience developing functional specifications, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Experience with MS Office products especially Word, Visio, and Excel.
- Ability to present process designs to existing and new clients.
- Knowledge and application of ASME BPE guidelines.
Preferred Skill and Experience
- 1-3+ years of process equipment commissioning and validation experience.
- Experience with FDA, EMA, and other regulatory standards and requirements.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Experience in pharma or biotech GMP environments.
